Course Overview
This unit is designed to allow candidates to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to successfully monitor the signing, lighting and guarding of a work site. Supervisors will learn how to oversee work site surveys, confirm suitable provisions are in place and ensure the safety of pedestrians, site personnel, vehicles, cyclists and horse riders. They will also be able to monitor the use of portable traffic signals, Stop/Go controls and general site safety throughout signing, lighting and guarding operations.
Course Content
Monitoring site surveys to confirm suitable provisions for location and access needs
Assessing the safety of the public and site personnel
Responsibilities and provisions for pedestrians, vehicular traffic and special needs (cyclists and horse riders)
Identifying and ensuring correct equipment is in place to protect pedestrians, traffic and site personnel
Monitoring the correct use of portable traffic signals and Stop/Go traffic control in line with site requirements and conditions
Planning and overseeing a signing, lighting and guarding project
Understanding legal requirements, basic principles and types of works
Overseeing on-site risk assessments, methods of traffic control, speed control and portable traffic signal operations
Ensuring safe practices near footways, cycle lanes, tracks, tramways and railways
