Course Overview

This combined course provides delegates with the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to safely operate both a Forward Tipping Dumper and a Ride-On Roller.

Both machines are key components in construction and site maintenance work. While the dumper focuses on transporting and unloading materials, the roller is used for compaction and creating level surfaces.

Due to the power and weight of this equipment, there are significant risks if operated incorrectly. This training ensures operators can carry out work safely, efficiently and in full compliance with current site and safety regulations.

Course Content

Forward Tipping Dumper

• Carry out pre-use safety checks and basic maintenance


• Start and operate the machinery safely


• Manoeuvre on various terrains and confined spaces


• Load and unload safely to maintain stability


• Prepare the machine for use on the public highway


• Site and park the dumper safely and efficiently


• Identify key components such as the diesel engine


• Apply safety precautions for different operating conditions

Ride-On Roller

• Health and safety awareness prior to operation


• Conducting pre-start checks before use


• Understanding operator roles and responsibilities on-site


• Correct mounting and dismounting procedures


• Manoeuvring the roller safely, including in confined spaces


• Identifying and avoiding hazards such as underground services, overhead cables and trenches


• Compacting techniques including straight lines, radii, supported and unsupported edges


• Safe isolation and shutdown procedures
