Course Overview
The CPCS A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel course is designed for individuals with little or no experience operating loading shovels. This comprehensive training programme provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to operate a wheeled loading shovel safely and efficiently on construction, quarry, waste, and industrial sites.
Delegates will train on real machinery, learn industry‑standard operating techniques, and prepare for the CPCS theory and practical assessments needed to obtain the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for category A21.

Health & Safety at Work Act
PUWER & LOLER regulations
Machine components and functions
Pre-start checks and defect reporting
Safe working loads and stability
Working on gradients, rough terrain, and confined areas
Environmental considerations
Mounting, dismounting, and safe machine positioning
Travelling with and without loads
Loading trucks, hoppers, and stockpiles
Bucket control and material handling
Working on inclines and uneven ground
Maintaining visibility and safe working zones
Parking, shutdown, and securing procedures
Delegates must complete:
CPCS Theory Test (verbal questioning)
CPCS Practical Test demonstrating safe and competent operation
Successful candidates receive:
CPCS Red Trained Operator Card – A21
Valid for 2 years, with progression to the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card via NVQ
