Course Overview
This course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out detailed inspections and record keeping for Personal Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE). It ensures delegates are competent to assess, identify and document the condition and safety of harnesses, lanyards and associated fall protection equipment in accordance with current legislation and standards.
Course Content
Summary of legislation relating to work at height and the detailed inspection (thorough examination) of PFPE
Equipment standards including CE and UKCA marking and traceability
Overview of PFPE categories including work restraint, work position and fall arrest
Characteristics and functions of PFPE including lanyards, dynamic self retracting lanyards, retractable type fall arresters, anchorage slings, connectors and harnesses
Identification of defects and typical damage that occurs to PFPE
Overview of PFPE manufacturing, design and development processes
Equipment traceability and mandatory documentation including declarations or certificates of conformity
Determining if an item of PFPE is fit for purpose and criteria for removing equipment from service including quarantine procedures and preventing further damage
Information required for completing a detailed inspection or thorough examination report
Practical:
Inspecting and thoroughly examining harnesses, lanyards and associated PFPE for signs of degradation or fatal flaws
Recording findings from detailed inspections and thorough examinations

Who Should Attend?
Individuals responsible for inspecting, maintaining or managing the use of PFPE in the workplace, including safety officers, supervisors and designated competent persons.
No previous experience required, though a basic understanding of work at height practices is beneficial. Delegates must be physically fit and able to handle inspection equipment safely.
