Course Overview
This course provides detailed training on the inspection of lifting equipment and accessories. Delegates will gain the knowledge to plan and conduct lifting operations, formally inspect lifting equipment, and meet statutory requirements for inspection, rejection, disposal, and reporting procedures.
Delegates must be 18 years or over.
Course Content
Theory:
In addition to the theory elements covered in the Safe Lifting Module 1, the following topics are emphasised:
The importance of traceability for all lifting equipment
Completing inspection records
Inspecting equipment and recording findings
Monitoring the continual degradation of lifting items and determining the point for withdrawal from service
Processes for quarantining equipment
Investigating the effects of contaminants and understanding requirements for returning equipment to service
Practical:
Legislation governing the inspection of lifting equipment
Requirements and production of inspection reports
Standards and ratings of lifting equipment
Maintenance of lifting accessories
Conducting formal examinations under LOLER on common lifting accessories, including slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, beam clamps, eyebolts, and hooks
Identifying common faults with equipment
Follow up procedures after an examination

Individuals responsible for carrying out detailed periodic inspections of lifting equipment and accessories, and those involved in planning or managing lifting operations.
Pre Course Entry Requirements
Delegates must have successfully completed both the Safe Lifting Theory and Practical modules, as covered in the Practical Lifting and Slinging Beneath the Hook 1 day training course
