Course Overview
This NPORS accredited Cable Avoidance Tool N304 course addresses both the theory and practical aspects of safely using a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny).
The session is delivered in line with HSG 47 for Avoiding Danger from Underground Services. Students will be taught essentials on how to use the equipment before a practical element where they will be shown how to correctly trace and mark underground service lines.
Course Content
• Current legislation & best practice (including HSG 47)
• Correct usage of the CAT & Genny, including manufacturer's handbook and other sources of information
• Risks associated with excavation near underground services and safe dig procedures
• Equipment features including controls and functions
• Implications of improper use
• Utility plans & service drawings
• Know how to identifty different types of underground services, the risks they present and causes of accidents
• Correct safety procedures of a working area, including detection tasks
