Course Overview
The NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Highways Maintenance is a flexible, work-based qualification to officially recognise the skills and experience of those who work as Highway Operatives
The qualification does not involve any training or exams. Instead, applicants must gather evidence of their competence in the qualification’s criteria whilst they are on the job, so there is no need to take time out of work.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for taking this qualification, however, applicants should already be employed in a construction job where they work installing roofing systems. This qualification can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications in this subject area.
As applicants will be required to prove their competence in each of the qualification’s units, they should already have some experience in their role and be confident in all aspects of installing cladding.
How long does it take to complete and what does the course involve?
This course does not involve any official training or exams. Instead, applicants are required to gather evidence of their competence in each of the course’s units whilst on the job.
All evidence gathered is then compiled into a personal portfolio and submitted to the examination board.
The length of time that it takes to gather all the evidence required for the course varies from one applicant to the next. Generally, it does not take longer than 6 -12 months, but applicants work at their own pace, so this depends on how much time you can commit to the qualification.
How is the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Highways Maintenance assessed?
Each candidate is required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.
This qualification will be assessed based on the evidence you submit in your personal portfolio.
At the beginning of the course, the candidate will be assigned an occupationally competent assessor who will assist the candidate with gathering the evidence required and help them complete the qualification.
Primarily, the candidate will communicate with your assessor remotely by telephone or email, but it is likely they will also attend your workplace once or twice to help with gathering evidence.
The evidence will include observation report by the assessor, assignments/projects/reports, professional discussion, witness testimony, worksheets, record of oral and written questioning.
You will be then required to submit a ‘Portfolio of Evidence’ showing how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit required within the qualification, as directed by your assessor.
