Course Overview
This course is designed for those who intend to conduct safe practical lifting operations and for managers who need to plan lifting activities. Delegates will gain hands on experience in the use of lifting equipment and develop a solid understanding of correct equipment selection and load assessment.
During the course delegates will carry out lifting operations to demonstrate their understanding of safe practice. This provides an insight into each delegate’s ability to operate safely, though it is not possible to fully recreate real working conditions.
The day is divided into two sessions:
Morning Session Safe Slinging and Lifting Appreciation (theory foundation and pre use inspection)
Afternoon Session Practical Lifting and Slinging Beneath the Hook
Course Content
The following topics will be covered:
Assessment of loads, including weight, centre of gravity and safety hazards
Practical pre use inspection of lifting equipment
Practical selection and use of common lifting accessories, including slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, plate clamps, eyebolts and hooks
Personal safety during lifting operations
Identifying potential misuse of equipment
Completing a lifting plan
