Course Overview
This nationally recognised qualification is for experienced tradespeople moving into a supervisory role, or those currently supervising teams in the construction sector. It certifies occupational competence in overseeing health and safety, organising work activities, monitoring progress and leading others effectively.
Occupational Work Supervision at Level 3 is aimed at experienced operatives and craft workers stepping into their first supervisory responsibilities, managing a team's day-to-day work, health and safety and progress. This sits a step below the Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision, which is equivalent to foundation degree level and covers broader site-wide supervision across specific pathways. In short, Level 3 suits someone supervising a team; Level 4 suits someone supervising a site.
Key Details: Qualification Number 600/4243/6, Level 3, Total Qualification Time (TQT) 670 hours, Guided Learning Hours (GLH) 224, Assessment: competence-based, internally assessed (pass/fail), Regulated by Ofqual and CCEA, Awarded by ProQual Awarding Body.
Entry Requirements: candidates must have Level 2 construction skills or equivalent experience, must demonstrate supervisory capability, and must be working in a relevant construction role. This diploma aligns with the National Occupational Standards and the Construction Skills Consolidated Assessment Strategy.
Construction NVQs with One Stop Safety Training typically take around 9 to 12 months to complete, though this varies depending on your experience and how quickly you can gather suitable workplace evidence. Our Construction NVQs are available nationwide, since assessor support is provided remotely through our online learning platform and Microsoft Teams, with evidence gathered from your own workplace, so you don't need to attend a specific training centre.

Mandatory Units (All Required):
Confirming Work Activities and Resources; Developing and Maintaining Good Working Relationships;
Confirming the Occupational Method of Work;
Implementing and Maintaining Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare Practices;
Coordinating and Organising Work Operations;
Monitoring Progress of Work Against Schedules.
Optional Units (Choose at least two):
Allocating and Monitoring the Use of Plant, Machinery, Equipment or Vehicles;
Confirming Work Meets Contractual, Industry and Manufacturer Standards;
Implementing Procedures to Support Team Performance;
Coordinating and Confirming Dimensional Control Requirements.
Assessment Methods: on-site observations, witness testimony, professional discussions, reports/projects/portfolios, photographic/video evidence, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). All evidence must come from real work environments.
