Course Overview
This course is designed for those who intend to access rooftops or similar structures using pre installed fall arrest systems and work restraint techniques to carry out work at height.
On completion delegates will be able to carry out pre use checks, safely use pre installed access systems and set up work restraint systems for fall prevention using a range of techniques and equipment.
The day is divided into two sessions
- Morning Session Safety Harness Theory Training including pre use inspection
- Afternoon Session Rooftop Safety practical rooftop safety and restraint systems.
During training delegates will carry out activities at height to gain practical insight into operating in realistic conditions. The height and exposure used in training will be noted on the certification for reference only and does not limit future working height.
Course Content
Theory:
Defining the work environment in terms of risk assessment and selecting the appropriate work method
Understanding what constitutes steep ground and when work positioning techniques become necessary
Understanding the importance of avoiding hazards where possible
Correct setup of work restraint systems
Understanding the limitations of retractable lanyards for use in work restraint
Practical:
Delegates will gain hands on experience in:
Using full body harnesses
Setting up work restraint and fall arrest lanyards
Using work positioning systems
Working with horizontal trans fastener type systems
Delegates will also gain experience using equipment for safe access including:
Additional hazards specific to rooftop environments such as fragile surfaces and dropped objects will also be covered.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone required to access or work on rooftops using pre installed fall arrest systems or work restraint methods. This includes maintenance operatives, roof workers and those responsible for ensuring safety while working at height.
