Course Overview

This course prepares candidates to safely enter, work and exit low and medium risk confined spaces. Delegates will receive both theoretical and practical training in the use of access equipment such as tripods, winch systems and rescue retrievers. The course also covers confined space rescue harnesses, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation, use of 15-minute emergency escape breathing apparatus, communication procedures and the duties of the Top Person (Safety Attendant).

Training includes an understanding of confined space legislation, identification of confined spaces and their hazards, confined space risk assessment, safe systems of work and the legal requirements for rescue planning.

Practical exercises take place in a purpose-built confined space training simulator. Delegates will descend, ascend and traverse over 36 meters of tunnels under simulated emergency conditions including low light, noise, smoke and variable atmospheric conditions.
