Course Overview
This course will cover a range of important topics related to mental health conditions that children and young people can experience and the many ways they can be offered support.
Course Content
The course starts by defining mental health and its impact in children and young people, rather than assuming the adult framing of mental health transfers directly, since presentation and context differ significantly by age. Children's mental health training online covers the common mental health issues found in children and young people, giving a broad grounding across the range of conditions rather than focusing on a single diagnosis. The course covers how to recognise the signs and symptoms found in children and young people, and how to recognise the causes and risk factors involved, so staff can respond to what they're actually observing rather than relying on assumptions. The course covers the treatment and support available, and the long-term outcomes of mental health issues in children and young people, giving a realistic picture of what support can achieve, rather than treating early intervention as a guarantee. Anyone working with or caring for children and young people, including those in education, childcare and family support settings, who need a working understanding of child and adolescent mental health.
