Preparation for the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test
Course Overview
This course is for candidates who have completed their Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction
Environment course and want to prepare for the touch screen test. The course reviews the key
learning objectives of the Level 1 course including Accident Reporting, Environmental Awareness,
Health and Welfare facilities, fire safety and hazardous substances.
Course Content
The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, sometimes called the CSCS touchscreen test, is a multiple-choice test taken on a touch screen at a CITB test centre. Every version of the test consists of 50 questions, to be answered within 45 minutes. Passing the CITB HS&E test is a requirement for most CSCS cards, and your test result is generally valid for 2 years.
Operatives test. The standard test for general construction workers. Covers five core knowledge areas. The pass mark is 90% (45 of 50 questions correct). This is the test most commonly linked to the CSCS Green Card, and the one this revision course is built around.
Specialists test. The same core knowledge areas as the Operatives test, plus questions specific to a chosen trade or specialism. The pass mark is also 90%.
Managers & Professionals test. For site managers, supervisors and professionals, covering more advanced legal and management topics. The pass mark is higher, at 92% (46 of 50 questions correct).
The real CITB test uses its own official question bank, which is not reproduced here. This revision course works through the same subject areas as the Level 1 course, including accident reporting, environmental awareness, health and welfare facilities, fire safety and hazardous substances.
By the end of this course, you will be able to understand your role and responsibilities in the workplace, define and explain common hazards and safer work practices, identify safety signs and PPE, and understand site and environmental safety issues around waste control and site traffic.
