Course Overview
This practical course is designed to make operatives fully conversant in the operation of the Gotcha CRD Rescue Kit and its various modes of use. Delegates will learn how to use the equipment to rescue an unconscious casualty or safely evacuate themselves from structures such as tower cranes.
The day is divided into two sessions:
This training is intended for operatives who are already experienced and competent in the use of their personal fall protection equipment.
During the course, delegates will carry out activities at height to assess their ability to operate safely in such conditions. The height and exposure used in training will be recorded on the certificate for reference only and does not limit the height at which delegates may operate in future.
Course Content
Theory:
Understanding the implications of being suspended in a harness and the importance of rescue provision when working at height
Understanding different approaches to rescue and how the Gotcha CRD Kit fits into the hierarchy of options (improvised, planned, and emergency services)
Understanding the importance of personal safety while performing a rescue
Awareness of the problems associated with suspension intolerance
Understanding post-rescue care and handover procedures to a first aider or emergency services
Identifying the key components of the rescue kit, including their strengths and limitations
Assessing situations and selecting the appropriate recovery technique, including anchor point selection and safe harness attachment points
Practical:
Correct fitting and adjustment of a fall arrest harness
Correct use of single and double fall arrest lanyards for personal safety during rescue and traversal
Understanding casualty management and application of temporary aids
Installation of the rescue kit from a position of safety and attachment to the casualty
Using the rescue kit to raise or lower an unconscious suspended casualty
Ensuring controlled lowering of the casualty from height
Performing an emergency evacuation from a structure
Optional elements include: remote deployment, use in conjunction with a stretcher, and establishing a guideline for lowering the casualty
