Course Overview

This course provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of how to plan, organise and supervise work at height safely. It covers the key principles of the Work at Height Regulations, the hierarchy of control measures and the correct selection and inspection of fall protection equipment.

Delegates will gain the knowledge required to identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures when working at height, as well as an overview of rescue planning and emergency procedures.

• Legislation overview – Work at Height Regulations 2005 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations
• Hazard analysis and risk assessment for work at height
• Inspection and record keeping procedures
• Planning work at height using the hierarchy of measures
• Overview of collective protection – scaffolding, MEWPs and soft landing systems
• Overview of personal measures – work restraint, work positioning, rope access and fall arrest
• Correct use and limitations of personal fall protection equipment (lanyards, fall arrest blocks, fixed systems)
• Safe use of ladders
• Prevention of dropped objects
• Planning for evacuation and rescue when working at height
• Identifying work at height hazards and selecting appropriate protective measures
• Choosing suitable evacuation and rescue equipment and techniques
